Mission

Led by Filmmaker Sarah Moshman, Empowered Film Foundation empowers women and underrepresented voices to shape culture through storytelling by funding socially impactful film and TV projects, impact campaigns, hosting workshops and programs that build filmmaking skills, and creating inclusive community spaces and events that foster connection, confidence, and meaningful change.

All of the work we do is to make the world a better place for women to thrive within, with filmmaking as our superpower to do so.

Supported Impact Ventures and Initiatives

In furtherance of its mission, Empowered Film Foundation supports:

DRIVEN TO EXPLORE

In early 2026, as NASA’s Artemis II sends Astronaut Christina Koch on a historic journey around the Moon, an Astrobiologist and her best friend will embark on a parallel real-time road trip adventure across America — from the launch in Cape Canaveral to Mission Control in Houston to splashdown in San Diego — meeting with trailblazing women in space and science whose stories mirror and empower the mission unfolding above.

Told through 10 parts to match the real-time 10-day, 650,000-mile journey to the Moon and back, the series will open up the world of STEM and space travel to the next generation of explorers, dreamers, and doers with every mile that she drives on Earth below.

Currently in Pre-Production, we are looking for funding partners to help us launch this urgent and dynamic series that is driven by social impact. Contact us to watch the sizzle, see the deck, and learn more.

AYAMI SATO: CURVEBALL

For the first time in its 107-year history, Canada’s Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) witnessed a groundbreaking moment: on May 11, 2025, Ayami Sato — widely regarded as the greatest female pitcher in the world — made history by stepping onto the field with the Toronto Maple Leafs, becoming the first woman ever to play in the league.

AYAMI SATO: CURVEBALL is a feature-length documentary that offers a powerful and intimate portrait of a trailblazing female athlete. The film follows Ayami’s extraordinary journey through trials and triumphs as she breaks barriers, defies expectations, and redefines what it means to truly belong. With grit, grace, and an unshakable love for the game, Ayami battles through the pressure of her debut season in an all-male league and then finding her way to the Women’s Professional Baseball League in 2026 — challenging not just the batters she faces, but the traditions she’s come to transform.

Currently in Production and Beginning Post-Production, we are looking for funding partners to help us finish this beautiful and timely film. Contact us to watch the sizzle, see the deck, and learn more.

Look What SHE's Doing!

Look What SHE’s Doing! is a filmmaking program for women over 30 to learn camera, audio, and lighting basics and make their own social impact documentaries. Filmmaker Sarah Moshman created the program and is going into her third year as the Lead Instructor on the Mount Saint Mary’s University Campus in Los Angeles. We need support to fund this effective and technical program each year that empowers a cohort of 12 women to make 3 short films, fostering professional skill building, networking, and community, as well as opportunities to share their work throughout the year in film festivals.

Grants for Female Filmmakers

A goal of the Empowered Film Foundation is to give out grants to female filmmakers who embody our mission of representing women and underrepresented voices on screen. It is often most difficult to get that first money in during the development or early production phase, so we aim to give out grants in the $1,000-$5,000 range each year to support that difficult and important juncture in the life cycle of a documentary film project.
